Chapter 1 - the kids are telling ghost stories and he gets annoyed.

Chapter 2 - He speaks to Mr Bentley in his office about Alice Drablows and about Eel Marsh House.

Chapter 3 - he takes 3 trains to the North of England to a small town called Crythin Gifford and on the train he meets Mr Daily and starts to talk to him.

Chapter 4 - he goes to Alice Drablows funeral with Mr Jerome and he sees the Woman in Black and he sees a lot of kids(20) staring at what is happening.

Chapter 5 - he gets into a Pony & trap and a man called keckwick picks him up and takes him to Eel Marsh house for the first time.

Chapter 6 - he decides to walk back on the causeway and then he hears the pony and trap then he goes back to Eel Marsh house because of safety.

Chapter 7 - he cycles to Mr Jerome's office and he tries to send someone to help with the paperwork, he wasn't convinced and sends no one.

Chapter 8- he decides to stay at Eel Marsh House for two days and Mr Daily gives him spider.

Chapter 9 - he tried to open the door but he goes outside and when he comes back in the door is wide open and he goes in.

Chapter 10 - Spider gets stuck in the marshes and Arthur saves the dog and he sees the Woman in Black and when he goes back into the house and he goes to the nursery and it is destroyed.

Chapter 12 - he marries Stella and go outside of London. Then Joseph says to go on a pony and trap. Arthur sees the woman in black and she steps in front of the pony and trap then she caused a huge accident. Stella died of her injuries a ten months later and Joseph died at the scene and he is lying by a tree.

Chapter 11- he is rescued by Mr Daily and he goes to his house and then looks through the packet of letters and he sees the death certificate.


Woman in Black -

Stella - 1st wife that died

Mr Daily - meets him on the train and his dog

Arthur Kipps - main character, rational, determined, haunted by the past

Alice Drawblow - she died, she lived in Eel Marsh house

Mr Jerome - estate agent, accompanies Arthur to the funeral, quiet and nervous,

Edmund - Arthur step child. Esme actual child

Keckwick - he drives Arthur from Gifford to Eel Marsh house

Isabel - Arthur step child. Esme actual child

Oliver- Arthur step child. Esme actual child

Will- Arthur step child. Esme actual child

Mr Bentley - Arthur’s employer, keeps facts from Arthur,

Esme - 2nd wife to Arthur

Jennet Humphrey - mum of Nathaniel

Nathaniel - son of Jennet humphrey

Mrs Daily - wife of Mr Daily

Morgan Thomas Drablow - husband of Alice Drablow

Joseph - the child dies at the park

London - foggy, busy, crowded

Eel Marsh house - isolated, cut up the tide,manor, covered by marsh

Crythin Gifford - small town, dreary, town filled with secrets, coast of England.

Monks Piece - peace, relaxation,

Train - first train is comfortable and nice. Second train is not comfortable. Meets Mr Daily

Mr Bentley's office -dark, quiet

Mr Jerome’s office -quite, dark, isolated

Graveyard - peaceful, scary

Marshes - deadly, dangerous, muddy

Nine Live Causeway - weather changes, long, dangerous

Fun fair at the park in London - see’s WIB and Stella & Joseph

Death - the death of Mrs Drablow and his wife and child.

Supernatural - the Woman in Black and the pony and trap.

Rural & urban life - rural life is Monks Piece & the Urban is London.

Power of nature - the fog in chapter 2 and chapter 6 because chapter 2 is in London and chapter 6 when Arthur walks back on the 9 lives causeway.

Isolation - Eel Marsh house is isolated because it is covered by marsh.

Fear - people in the town and their fear of the Woman in Black and the conspiracy of silence.

Memory - In chapter 1 when the kids are telling ghosts and Arthur gets reminded of what happened to him.
