It can even be used as a means of creating evidence to back up fake news stories. Photoshop has only recently been a viable way to create fake news. It can create actual believable images that can influence a viewer.

Social media is one of the main platforms involved with the of spread fake news. Because nothing posted is moderated, people can post whatever they want, and those posts can quickly be shared. Facebook has around 2 billion monthly users and twitter has 33 million, these platforms can be used to spread misinformation and reach a massive audience. Before social media, reaching the public was much harder as it cost more and things were verified before posted.

Rulers would spread information about them to seem more powerful. And now, companies hire people to gain publicity through misinformation.
