There are a few main advantages of creating an analog, drawn shot list. Firstly, is the ability to create the shot list without ever needing to visit the set of shooting. This is especially useful for when shooting is the only time when the set is available, therefore on set pre-production exercises are not possible. Secondly, by creating analog storyboards, this gives you the ability to easily annotate the images themselves with the use of handwritten notes, arrows, circling, etc. In order to annotate a story board created digitally is much more difficult, requiring you to print it off before annotation. Come to think of it, however, my storyboard will need to be printed in any case for documentation/folio purposes. This, therefore, makes the argument redundant for analog storyboards. The main advantage of creating an analog storyboard when compared with Studiobinder, is its cost. While Studiobinder would cost me $30 per month (approx 2 months = $60 total), analog storyboards are entirely free.
