Aesthetics
What aesthetic/theme would suit this product?
Could it be inspired by a design movement?
Use of geometric shapes and bold colours, inspired by Piet Mondrian's patterns from the De Stjil movement, 1921
Use of muted colours, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement 1850-1915
What colours would suit the theme?
Muted/unsaturated colours
Bright, bold colours
A colour scheme could be used- e.g. complimentary colours, analogous colours
Monochrome
Natural colours (of unfinished materials)
What's an appropriate finish?
A coat of varnish/polish could be applied for a shiny surface.
Material can be left rough and unfinished for aesthetics
Safety
Is the product safe for the customer?
Rounded/soft edges to prevent injury
Are all electric components, cables etc. hidden?
Is anything used to soften the glare of the light and protect people's eyes?
Can the product be protected?
Varnish or a sealant can be applied to wood to protect it from ageing
Can be made waterproof to protect in case of a spillage.
Size
Does it have a designated area its going to go?
Will it fit in this area?
Are there specific measurements it must fit?
Is it a suitable size to be able to provide light?
How many square metres will it need to illuminate?
Environment
Materials
Are they sustainably sourced?
Are they recyclable?
Less of the product will end up in landfill
Using recycled materials may even be cheaper
Are they bio-degradable?
Less of the product will end up in landfill
Do they contain things harmful to the environment?
Varnishes can contain chemicals harmful to the environment. Consider using a different varnish or sealing the wood differently.
Customer
What features would they want/ask for?
Could these features save their time?
Could they save people's energy?
How will the product influence their lives?
Will it make their lives easier?
Will it be energy efficient to conserve their electricity costs?
Who has the product been designed in mind with?
Both the customers and the restaurant owners?
Function
Could there be any additional features or functions?
Could have condiment and seasoning holders
Timed circuit to turn off after a certain amount of time
Could have multiple light colours
Could have dimmable lighting
What is the intended purpose of the product?
To provide light for the table top
To decorate the tabletop
Cost
Sale
Is the product value for money?
Is it an attractive (affordable at best) price?
Manufacture
Are the materials costly?
Is the use of costly tools going to be required?
e.g. using machines that use a lot of energy
Will the price cover the cost of materials, manufacture etc.?

Are the materials suitable for the environment they'll be in?
Do they match the aesthetic?
Are they safe?
Is it water/fire resistant?
