Reproduction
Sexual Reproduction
Advantages: 1. Genetic diversity/unique. 2. 2 sets of DNA meaning less susceptibility to disease from one parent.
Disadvantages: 1. Takes longer. 2. Favorable genetics may not be passed down since there are two parents.
Asexual Reproduction
Advantages: 1. Less time consuming. 2. Only one parent is needed.
Disadvantages: 1. Only one parent, if the organism is susceptible to a virus, the offspring (Genetic copy) will also be susceptible to that virus. 2. No genetic diversity.
A connection to a ScienceWorld article called "Should You Clone Your Dog?" is about genetic diversity. Cloning a dog or any organism means that the clone is an exact genetic copy of the original organism, or in this case, dog. This means no genetic diversity, which is similar to asexual reproduction because with one parent, the offspring is exactly the same. Though cloning a dog requires a surrogate dog.

Dominant/Recessive alleles. HH, Hh, hh. HH is homozygous dominant which means the organism with that allele will pass down an H. Hh is heterozygous meaning that it carries one of each allele. hh is a homozygous recessive gene meaning that both alleles are recessive.
Genotype: Genes responsible for traits of an organism.
Phenotype: Characteristics of an organism that are observable
With asexual reproduction, only one set of genes is being passed down, therefore the same genetic makeup is being passed to the offspring. This means that there will be the same chromosomes.

Punnet Square- The Punnett square is a square diagram that is used to predict the genotypes of a cross/child of two parents. The diagram is used to figure out the changes of an offspring having a particular genotype.

Natural Selection- It is the process where organisms that are better adapted to the environment will have better chances of their species surviving. An example of this is the finches of the Galapagos Islands most likely starting off from one common ancestor and evolving/changing beaks due to the different sizes/types of foods being eaten. A drought struck the islands and changes the abundance of food, therefore the the finches with the beaks that could eat the food that was provided had a much better adapted species, meaning they survived better.
Artificial selection- Breeding of animals on purpose for breeds that can do different things in different climates/situations etc. This is a form of genetic engineering. An example of this is breeding a dog with high running endurance with another dog with a great sense of smell for the sole purpose of the offspring to be great hunters.
