- Democracy: comes from the greek words 'demos'=citizens 'kratos'=rule
2.Democratic values: beliefs and ideals held by a Democracy. Examples:respect,equality, fairness & freedom.
- The Westminster System: is Australia's system of Government, named after the area of London where the British parliament is located.
- Justice: means different things to people from different societies.In Australia Justice means, fair and balanced.
- Participation: means good citizens contribute or take part in society. Voting, paying taxes and servingon a jury.
- Rights & responsibilities: rights to ensure we have a say, Responsibilities to ensure we contribute.
Each level of Government makes laws, provides services and can punish people for breaking laws.
Federal Government. makes laws for the entire country, the leader of the federal government is the prime minister.Examples: Immigration, marriage, defence, medicare and currency.
State & Territory Government. Laws apply to people in that state. Examples: high school, primary school and transport/transperth.
Local Government. 560 local Governments or councils. Makes rules for local community known as by laws.Examples: parks, parking, garbage collection and libraries.

A Double Majority requires two things: more than half of the voters throughout Australia vote 'yes'.More than half voters in at least four of the six states vote 'yes'.

The referendum was so successful with almost ninety four percent of Australia voted 'yes' with a majority in all six states with an overall ninety one percent.
The Referendum was to allow the commonwealth parliament to make laws for Aboriginal people to include them for the count of Australia population.
The Senate, the Senate represents the state and territories. (upper house).
The House of Representatives, they bring in new bills and resolution. (lower house).
There is two houses, the house of Representatives and the Senate.
Known as the Justice system. The purpose of the legal system is that we all get treated fairly and the laws are followed.

On the 6th of November, 1999 there was a Referendum. But unfortunately the Referendum was unsuccessful.

A preamble was added but it didn't affect the republic, but the preamble was not legal.
