Semantic Networks
-
Expanding the network
You can easily expand a semantic network by simply adding nodes and linking them to their related nodes currently in the network
-
-
A simple representation scheme which uses a graph of labeled nodes and labeled directed arcs to encode knowledge
- Nodes: objects, concepts, actions or events in the world
- Arcs: relationships between nodes
-
Both the nodes and arcs have labels that clearly describe the objects represented and their natural relationships
e.g. Canary is a bird, Bird has wings and travels by flying
-
Associationist theories define the meaning of an object in terms of a network associations with other objects in a domain or a knowledge base
Quillian's model of a semantic network is based not only on this idea of networks of information and knowledge but on evidence that organize that know knowledge hierarchically
