Diseases
Diseases can be split into two categories: Communicable-Can be spread between organisms
Non Communicable-Cannot be spread between organisms
-
The presence of one disease can increase the likelihood of developing another disease because diseases, such as HIV, can suppress the immune system and lead to more infections
Pathogens
-
Viruses
How they work:
-Invasion:The virus invades the host cell
-Replication: The virus then inserts its DNA into the host cell, causing it to multiply.
-Cells burst: Once the new cells have been synthesised, the existing ones burst, causing more virus to be released
-Illness: This damage to cells is what makes us ill
-
-
Bacteria
Bacteria can cause:
-Tuberculosis:Spreads in water droplets in the air, cause damage to lungs
-Cholera: causes diorrhea
-
Protists
