ANATOMY OF SALIVARY GLANDS

submandibular
:check: extends posteriorly from below 1st lower molar to angle of mandible
sublingual
:check: smallest pair
:check: located in floor of mouth on the surface of mylohyoid muscle.
:check: Ducts may join to form a single (duct of Bartholin)which empties into the submandibular duct.

CT ( glandular englargement , tumors)

PROCEDURE
:check: Preliminary radiographs
- to detect conditions that do not require contrast
:check: Give pt secretory stimulant 2-3 min before contrast administration
- suck on lemon wedge to open ducts for easy identification

: :check: Duct is cannulated, contrast introduced in fluoroscopic guidance.

:check: after taking req images, pt sucks on a lemon wedge again to evacuate contrast,
:check:take post procedure (delayed) 5 min - to confirm evacuation of contrast / demonstrate any residual contrast
