Pre-Assessment Strategy and Differentiation Instruction
Subject: ELA- 7th grade.
The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the topic and need to be tested further for special needs.
These students will start by getting into a small group in the back of the classroom at my table. Here we will go over the close reading assignment together.
Students will then take turns reading as we all go through the close reading together
After the first time I will then allow the students to read it independently on their own.
I work one on one with the two students who are having problems understanding what we are reading. For these students we will read a paragraph at a time together, then will stop and summarize in two sentences what the paragraph was about.
This assess will be used to check their grammar, spelling, and comprehension will be useful resources when they are tested for special needs or a learning disability.
Students will then help one another along with my assistance in annotating and breaking down what we are reading.
Teacher will Observe and Assess
The 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score but need to develop higher order thinking skills.
Teacher Will Observe and Assess
These students will be asked to work in a large homogeneous group, and partner work while doing the same close reading assignment.
I will have students doing a similar close reading assignment as the first group, but they will read with a partner and then independently answer the questions.
They will be assessed of their ability to summarize and comprehend what they are reading. Each student will answer three questions regarding the reading and a summary of the close reading.
This will help them see different viewpoints and allow for the students to develop higher thinking skills. Hearing someone else’s viewpoint or ideas on the same assignment. They will have an opportunity to hear other opinions and either agreed
The 5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly
They will begin by working on close reading assignments individually.
They will also be asked to write summaries and answer response questions on these individually.
Students will then work together on after they answer the questions individually that allows them to compare their answers and arguments regarding the readings
