A 23 year old male patient demonstrating severe face and arm muscle spasms was brought to the
emergency department by his brother.
Why is the patient experiencing spasms instead of flaccid paralysis, tetany, or some
other muscle symptom?
He is experiencing spasms instead of anything else because he didn't get the vaccine against the Clostridium tetani toxin which caused him to get spasms. He has spasms because the bacteria is still in him until he takes medicine and it goes away
-
If the toxin remains in the patient’s bloodstream, what other effects might the
toxin have?
The infection can cause severe muscle spasms, serious breathing difficulties, and can ultimately be fatal.

the addition of a second twitch, resulting in greater tension, and it results from stimulating the muscle before it has a chance to relax completely.
A single contraction. A muscle twitch has a latent period, a contraction phase, and a relaxation phase. A graded muscle response allows variation in muscle tension.
