With his miltary power Napoleon arranged a coup detat to take over from the Directory
In 1804 he declared himself Emporer of France
Napoleon's ranks in the military rose to Commander in Cheif
Exile
When he returned from Elba he attempted to rule again
His final battle was Waterloo ny the Duke of Wellington
Escaped from Elba in 1815
First exiled to Elba in 1814
After Waterloo has was exiled to St. Helena

French culture spread along with the Enlightenment ideas
This leads to Nationalism
Enlightenment ideas were spread around Europe
Nationalism is the belief that someone should be loyal to their shared culture
Napoleon changed their government back to a more unlimited government
