As an astronaut, you take on many risks, and must know how dangerous what you are doing is.
Sometimes months of hard planning doesn't pay off.
In 1960 and 1961 the missile that was supposed to carry the first astronauts into space went through almost seventy tests. nearly half of them ended in failure.
Rewards are worth the risk.
(pg 67-68) the ship will automatically keep itself spinning, so one side doesn't get over cooked by the sun, and the other freezing.

the LEM was so cold, it was almost below freezing.
With 5 hours until they reached earth the LEM finally started to get warmer.
They were using the power of three light bulbs to get back home
They were worried that they would press the wrong button at the last minute.
they figured out what had happened, it was all because a tiny thermostat.
The whole time the ship was carrying a time bomb (kind of)
