SUSTAINABILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Humans and their environment
The 3 ways to help the environment is conserving, cleaning up, and chiming in.
In the last200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment.
During the Industrial Revolution, there was more people which led to more pollution.
Using nonrenewable resources such as plastics causes pollution and will run out.
For our survival humans can do things to take care of the environment.
Natural Resources
Anything in natural that we value
There are many natural resources, such as air, water, soil, etc.
There are 2 types, which are renewable and nonrenewable
Renewable does not mean that it will never run out
We can conserve our resources by changing our habits
Greenhouse Effect
There are gases that make the Earth warmer.
Some of the Sun's heat goes back into space
Greenhouse gases, such as CO2, absorb and trap the heat on Earth.
Earth warms and cools naturally, but too much gases causes global warming.
Soil
Different layers of soil and the top soil is the most nutrious
Plants cannot grow in the bedrock, so we must take care of the topsoil
Soil contains humus (dead stuff) and rocks, which help plants grow
Weathering and erosion break rocks into small pieces
Soil is a mix of rocks and dead stuff
Air Pollution
Air pollution can have different sources, such as a car
Burning fossil fuels releases poisonous gases, such as CO2
Air pollution can cause cancer and global warming
Ozone protects when it's high in the atmosphere, but poisonous when it's low and near us
Air pollution mixes with clouds to create acid rain
Cows release methane, which is a greenhouse gas
If we conserve our resources then it will cause less air pollution
Population Growth
Climate Change aka Global Warming
Global Warming is about the increasing temperature of the Earth
Earth's climate changes naturally, but humans are making it warm up faster
Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide trap heat on the Earth
Burning fossils adds more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere
Cutting down trees stops the Earth from cooling down
Global warming can cause bad weather and diseases, but humans can still fix the problem
