SUSTAINABILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Natural resources
renewabale does not mean it will never come back
People divide resources into 2 types. Renewable and non-renewable
Natural resources are anything in nature that people value
Many natural resources include water, oil, air, soil and sunlight
We can conserve our resources by changing our habits
Climate Change(Global Warming)
Global warming is the increasing temperature of the Earth
Earth's climate changes naturally, but humans are making it warm up faster
Greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide, trap heat on the Earth
Burning fossil fuels adds more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere
Cutting down trees stops the earth from cooling down
Global warming can cause bad weather and diseases, but humans can still fix the problem
Population growth
Soil is a mix of rocks and stuff that is dead.
Weathering and erosion break rocks into small pieces
Soil contains humus (dead) and rocks, which help plants to grow.
Soil is made up of 3 layers. The topsoil is the most nutritious.
Plants can not grow in the bedrock so we must take care of the topsoil
Air Pollution
Air pollution can have different sources, such as cars
Burning fossil fuels releases poisonous gases, such as CO2
Air pollution can cause cancer and global warming
Ozone protects us when it's high in the atmosphere, but poisons us when it's low and near us.
air pollution mixes with the clouds to create acid rain
Cows release methane, which is a greenhouse gas
If we conserve our resources, then it will cause less air pollution
Greenhouse Effect
There are gases that make the Earth warmer
Most of the Sun's heat goes back into space
Greenhouse gases, such as CO2 absorb and trap the heat on earth
Earth warms and cools down naturally, but too much gases causes global warming
Greenhouse gases such as, CO2 and Methane, by humans is the main cause of global warming
Humans and their environment
The three ways to help the environment is conserving, cleaning up, and chiming in.
In the last 200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment.
During the Industrial Revolution, there was more people, which led to more pollution.
For our survival, humans can do things to take care of the environment.
Using non-renewable resources such as plastics causes pollution and will eventually run out.
