SUSTAINIBILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES (Climate Change ( aka Global Warming )…
SUSTAINIBILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Humans and their environment
The 3 ways to help the environment is conserving, cleaning up, and chiming in
In the last 200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment
Doing the industrial revolution, there was more people which lead to more pollution
Using nonrenewable resources, such as plastics, causes pollution and wil run out
For our survival humans can do things to take care of the environment
Conserving energy
Natural Resources
There are 2 types, which are renewable and nonrenewable
Anything in nature that we value
We can conserve our resources by changing our habits
There are many natural resources such as air, water, soil, etc.
Renewable does not mean that it will never run out
Greenhouse Effect
There are gases that makes the Earth warmer
Some of the sun's heat goes back into space
Greenhouses, such as CO2, absorb and trap the heat on Earth
The Earth warms and cools down naturally, but too much gases cause global warming
Greenhouse gases, such as CO2 and methane, by humans is the main cause of global warming
Climate Change ( aka Global Warming )
Earth's climate changes naturally, but humans are making it warm up faster
Global Warming is increasing temperature of Earth
Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, trap heat on the Earth
Burning fossils adds more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere
Cutting down trees stop the Earth from cooling down
Global Warming can cause bad weather and diseases, but humans can still fix the problem
Recycling
Air Pollution
Air pollution can have different sources, such as cars
Burning fossil fuels releases poisonous gases, such as CO2
Air pollution can cause cancer and global warming
Ozone protects us when it's high in the atmosphere, but poisons us when it's low and near us
Air pollution mixes clouds to create acid rain
Cows release methane, which is a greenhouse gas
If we conserve our resources then it will cause less air pollution
Population Growth
Soil
Soil contains humus (dead) and rocks, which help plants to grow
Soil has different layers and the topsoil is the most nutritious
Weathering and erosion break rocks into smaller pieces
Plants cannot grow in the bedrock, so we must take care of topsoil
Soil is a mix of rocks and dead stuff
