SUSTAINABILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Humans and their environment
for our survival humans can do things to take care of the environment.
Using nonrenewable resources such as plastics, causes pollution and will run out
During the industrial revolution there was more people which lead to more pollution
In the last 200 years humans have greatly impacted the environment.
The three ways to help the environment are conserving, cleaning up and chiming in
Natural resources
anything in nature that people value
there are many natural resources such as air, water, soil, etc
There are 2 types, which are renewable and nonrenewable
We can conserve our resources by changing our habits
Renewable does not mean that it will never run out
Greenhouse effect
some of the sun's heat goes back into space
there are gases that make the world warmer
earth warms up and cools down naturally but too much gases causes global warming
greenhouse gases such as co2, absorb and trap the heat on earth
greenhouse gases such as co2 and methane, by humans is the main cause of global warming
Climate change
Global warming is about the increasing temperature of the earth
Earth's climate changes naturally but humans are making it warm up faster
Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide trap heat on the earth
Burning fossil fuels adds more carbon dioxide to the atmosphere
Cutting down trees stops the earth from cooling down
Global warming can cause bad weather and diseases but humans can still fix the problem
air pollution
air pollution can have different sources, such as cars
burning fossil fuels releases poisonous gases, such as co^2
ozone protects when its high in the atmosphere, but poisonous us when its low and near us
air pollution can cause cancer and global warming
air pollution mixes with the clouds to create acid rains
cows release methane which is a greenhouse gas
if we conserve our resources then it will cause less air pollution
soil
soil contains humus which is (dead) and rocks, which help plants to grow.
soil has different layers and the topsoil is the most nutritious
weathering and erosion break rocks into small pieces.
plants can not grow in the bedrock so we must take care of the topsoil.
soil is a mix of rocks and dead stuff.
Population Growth
Earth can support a certain amount of people
About 200 years ago, the human population increased a lot
More humans on Earth is causing more pollution and using our resources faster
In about 10 years, there will be more than 8 billion people on Earth
Humans can reduce their use to help with conservation
Recycling is a good way to conserve our resources
