sustainability of natural resources
humans and their enviroment
conserve, clean up, chime in
in 200 years people have really impacted the environment
during the industrial revolution there was a population boom, pollution boom
using nonrenewable resources causes pollution and will run out
for survival our people can take care of the planet
recycling
conserving energy
population growth
"climate change"
"global warming" is the increase of temp. on the earth
earths climate changes naturally, but some believe humans are making it warm up faster
burning fossil fuels gives us more carbon dioxide
we can "fix" the problem
greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide trap heat in the earth
cutting down trees keep the earth from cooling down
soil
plants can't grow in bed rock so we need to care for top soil
weathering and erosion break rocks into smaller pieces
soil has 3 different layers - topsoil is most nutritious
soil contains humus which makes plants grow healthier
soil is rocks and dead stuff (humus)
green house effect
there are gases that make the earth warmer
most of the sun's radiation goes back into space
greenhouse gases such as C02 absorb and trap heat on earth
earth warms and cools naturally but too much causes "global warming"
greenhouse gases such as C02 and methane are the main cause of
natural resources
there are two types of resources - renewable and nonrenewable
we can conserve our resources by changing our habits
renewable does not mean it will never run out
there are many natural resources - water, soil, air, etc.
anything in nature that people value
air pollution
air pollution has lots of sources ex. cars
the pollution can become acid rain, kills animals
ozone is good high in the atmosphere (protects from radiation) but poisons us on the ground
cows release methane (green house gas)
air pollution can cause cancer and global warming
burning fossil fuels release poisonous gases ex. C02
