Sustainability of Natural Resources
Air pollution
Air pollution can have different sources, such as cars.
Air pollution can cause cancer and global warming.
Air pollution can mix with clouds to make acid rain.
Burning fossil fuels releases poisonous gases, such as CO2.
Ozone when it's up high protects us from the sun, but becomes poisonous when it's near us.
Cows produce a lot of methane, which is a greenhouse gas.
Conserving our resources will cause less air pollution.
Population growth
Earth can support a certain amount of people.
About 200 years ago, the human population increased a lot.
More humans on Earth is causing more pollution and using our resources faster.
In about 10 years, there will be more than 8 billion people on Earth.
Humans can reduce their use to help with conservation.
Recycling is a good way to conserve our resources.
Natural Resources
Anything in nature that people value.
There are many natural resources, such as air, water, soil, etc.
There are 2 types, which are renewable and non-renewable.
Renewable does not mean that it will never run out.
We can conserve our resources by changing our habits.
Climate Change(Global Warming)
Greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, trap heat on the Earth.
Global warming is about the increasing temperature of the Earth.
Cutting down trees stops the Earth from cooling down.
Earth's climate changes naturally, but humans are causing it to happen faster.
We can help to stop global warming by using less fossil fuels, conserving enerfy, and using renewable resources.
Burning fossil fuels adds more carbon dioxide to our atmosphere.
Global warming leads to lots of problems, such as bad weather and diseases.
Soil
Soil is a mix of rocks, water, and dead stuff.
Weathering breaks rocks into smaller pieces (sediments).
More humus helps the plants to grow.
Soil has different layers and topsoil has the most humus.
Plants cannot grow in the bedrock, so we must take care of the topsoil.
Erosion moves the sediments to other places.
Greenhouse effect
Greenhouse effect is the warming of Earth.
Greenhouse gases, such as CO2, trap heat on Earth.
Without the greenhouse gases, Earth would be too cold to live on.
Too much greenhouse gases can cause global warming.
Humans are causing global warming.
Humans can reduce global warming by burning less fossil fuels and raising less cows (methane).
Humans and their environment.
From the last 200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment.
The 3 things we can do to help the environment are conserving, cleaning up, and chiming in.
During the Industrial Revolution, there was more people on Earth, which led to more pollution.
For our survival, we need to take care of our environment.
Using nonrenewable resources, such as plastic, causes pollution and will eventually out
