CONF 310 - Conf Coaching Response
Introduction
Thesis: The two particular aspects i found interesting and why
Explain your topic in a five to ten sentence introduction paragraph. Express your own opinion in the introduction part by writing a short synopsis which is only written in the introduction.
Why CC is important
Reflection/opinion on CC
What is it/what i learned
Being question oriented and asking the right questions
Why is it important
Good questioning techniques evoke awareness (as discussed with values), supportive challenging questions, action motivated, and future thinking
Meaningful questions lead to resolution
Future-oriented, solution-focused, optimistic, promotes openness
reflection/opinion
Definitely the most difficult thing to try and implement in the coaching section
What it is/what i leanred
Possibility questioning - call on clients to reflect on and reappraise their perspectives, consider alternative viewpoints
No suggestions or advice, rather focus on line of questioning. The right questions will allow the client to come up with their own constructive solution.
question should be framed in a way that helps the client gain a perspective of the others involved in the conflict while also keeping in mind their own interests. In this way it is more collaborative rather than competitive or accommodating
The ultimate goal is to allow the client to consider the others interests while enabling them to also promote their own, leading to win win resolution
Importance of values in CC
Why is it important
Values account for our motivations, actions, and reactions when we are in conflict (54)
it typically is not the intentions of the person, but it is the reason for our reaction. We ourselves do not always act in accordance with our values and principles, but we often expect others to and take offense when their actions violate or undermine them
In conflict coaching, its important for the coach to recognize these values and bring them to the attention of the client. Realization of these values allow us to change our perspective regarding the actions or behavior of others involved in the conflict.
reflection/opinion
Resonated with me because i am definitely a very principled person without always realizing it. More often than not, those principles are the reason I get upset, take offense, and engage in conflict with a person or a group of people
Values and principles can also account for bias, and recognizing your own values, realizing the values of others may be differfent, others do not intent to viiolate or threaten those values, allow you to put those biases aside and reach a resolution for the conflict you are engaged in
What it is/what i leanred
The importance of values - the idea that conflict arises due to an uderlying sense that something fundemental (principles) are being challenged, threatened, or undermined
Conclusion
