23 year old male with severe face & arm muscle spasms; patient can hardly speak; the brother confirms that the patient got a new tattoo the day before so blood test are ordered & results confirm that the patient has clostridium tetani
Upstream causes:
Direct:
tetanospasmin the toxin that is released by clostridium tetani goes into the blood stream reaches the motorneuron through the terminal, the axon & into the cell body then the toxin blocks inhibitory neurotransmitters causing the excitatory neurotransmitters to reach treshold and repeatedly cause muscle contraction leading to muscle spasms
Indirect:
-
the patient should have been more concerned about the person he got his tattoo from and should have investigated their cleaning procedures
