Identity Fusion
In Pudd'nhead Wilson it is nicely shown how Identity Fusion really works in real life and that it is actually pretty common. When Wilson gets his nickname, because of a joke he makes, it sticks with him for a really long time, and it almost seems like he doesn't want it gone, because he is used to it and has become that person, that everyone sees him as in a sense.
What is funny?
I know that the joke that got Wilson his nickname wasn't racist so it isn't the same as what we talked about in class, but I feel like it still relates. We can nicely see how something that we find funny doesn't necessarily have to be funny to other people. Not that people in the town were offended by his joke, but they didn't react the way he expected when he made it and so in my opinion it shows how easy it is to get a different response than expected and if it was an offensive joke, he could have been in real trouble.
The word "black"
The more books about slavery and the segregation of black people we read, the more I agree with the the article. Like in Pudd'nhead Wilson for example, the only thing that is different between Chambers and Tom is their race, but since their skin tone is very similar, no one even notices when Roxy switches them and it just has me thinking why there is this idea that Black I worse than White.
