Veil: The "Veil" is probably one of the most complex concepts we have learned in class so far. The "veil" represents the border between white privilege and black people. We discussed how the veil exists on both sides but only black people can see the true difference while white people are ignorant towards it. Seeing the veil is a "gift" given to educated black people when they notice that there is a strong difference between the lives of them and white people. It is next to impossible to cross the veil as a black person and it is frustrating to see the other side.

the law and how it functions: The law in our society is supposed to be a fair system that does right and keeps society safe and prosperous. In class our discussion was about rich people corrupting the government because they have money and power. It is easier for them to make unjust laws that they approve of (and other rich people approve of) while the majority of the population (more poor people) have little to no say in the matter. People in the law system who are powerful tend to abuse it rather than use that for good and creates a corrupt law system.

the word black: The word black is from an article we read in class when describing the underlying racism in words in society. It explained how "black" has a bad connotation in today's language, for example, blackmail. It was interesting to learn about because personally, I had never saw nor thought about it in that way. It proved that even though a lot of aspects of society think that they had moved on from racism and prejudice, it is still built into our lives.
