The Vocabulary Problem
People will choose a name or describe something, depending on their own experiences and context.
In the 1980s, Experiments were conducted at Bell Labs by George
Furnas et al. They assessed the similarities and differences in the names the test subjects gave to various resources and functions, measuring how much people would agree with the different names given.
Homonymy
A group of words that usually but not always have different spellings and usually sound alike, but have different meanings. e.g Bite - Nibble and Byte - data
Polysemy
One word with two or more distinct meanings e.g Box. 1) a container 2) a seating area. 3) to fight with fist
