1.4 D hardware need to connect a local area network (LAN)
network interface card (NIC)
for a node to connect to a network it needed to have a network interface card (NIC)
NICs can be connected to any device that connect to a network
every NIC has it own globally unic address the MAC address
every NIC is different (that are a long sequence of letters and numbers)
a NIC change the format of the data for the machine format to the servers format when transferring data
HUB
a small scale box
a HUB allows node and a network to ling
HUB can have ethernet cables to the back if it
the HUB cannot be connected to a lot of nodes
if ten nodes are connected to a HUB a one if the nodes are watching youtube than the HUB will send data packets if the youtube video to all of the nodes that are connected
a HUB can cause a lot of network traffic
a HUB it not good from keeping data secure because you share sharing everything that you are doing to every other node connected to the network
HUB also cause data coalition
swich
a switch can have a lot more ethernet cables than a HUB up to 128
switches do not share each data package to every node that connected to it
switches are a lot more expensive and harder to set up than HUBs but switches secure data
if a data come from a ethernet cable it will only go to the nodes to was sent to
Router
