SUSTAINABILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Conserving Energy
Climate Change (aka global warming)
Global warming is about the temperature of the earth
Climate change happens naturally but humans are making it happen faster
Global warming is caused by greenhouse gasses, which trap the heat
Humans burning fossil fuels is producing more carbon dioxide
Trees remove carbon dioxide so we need more trees
Global warming is causing bad weather and diseases but we cans till fix the problem
Natural Resources
Anything in energy that people value
We use energy resources to power our cities
Plastic is not a natural resource, unlike air, water, plants, and animals
The two types of resources are renewable and nonrenewable
Fossil fuels (oil) are nonrenewable, unlike solar energy
Reducing, reusing and recycling can help us conserve our resources.
Recycling
Air polution
Air pollution can come from different places, such as cars
Burning fossil fuels releases poisonous gases, such as CO2
Air pollution can cause cancer and global warming
Ozone when it's up high protects from the sun, but becomes poisonous when it's near us
Air pollution can mix with clouds to acid rain
Cows produce lots of methane, which is a greenhouse gas
Conserving our resources will cause less air pollution
Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse gasses such as CO2, warms the Earth
Too much greenhouse gases makes the Earth toto hot (Global Warming)
Greenhouse effect is the warming of Earth
Humans are causing more greenhouse gases
without the greenhouse gasses, Earth would be too cold for life
Burning fossil fuels and cows produces methane can be reduced by humans
Humans and their enviornment
For the last 200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment.
The 3 ways to help the environment is conserving, cleaning up, and chiming in (talk about it)
Humans need to take action to improve our enviornment for our survival
During the industrial Revolution, there was more people that caused more pollution
using nonrenewable resources causes pollution and will eventually run out
Population Growth
In about 10 years there will be more than 8 billion people on Earth
More humans on Earth is causing more . pollution and our resources to be used faster
About 200 years ago, the human population increased a lot
Humans can reduce their use to help with conservation
Earth can support a certain amount of people
Recycling is a good way to conserve our resources
Soil
Soil is a mix of rocks, water, and dead stuff
Erosion moves the sediments to other places
Weathering breaks rocks into small pieces called sediments
Burning fossil fuels adds more carbon dioxide to our atmosphere
Soil has different layers and the topsoil has the most humus
Plants cannot grown on bedrock so we must protect out topsoil
Photosynthesis
