SUSTAINABILITY OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Conserving energy
Recycling
Fossil fuels
Climate change
Global warming is about the temperature of the Earth.
The Earth's temperature is increasing faster than normal
Global Warming is caused by more greenhouse gases
These gasses traps the heat on the Earth ( greenhouse effect )
People using fossil fuels is producing more carbon dioxide
Climate change is causing more bad weather and diseases, but we can fix the problem by conserving our resources.
Natural Resources
Anything in nature that people value
Air, Water, fossils, plants, and animals are natural resources
Plastic is not a natural resource
There are 2 types which are renewable and nonrenewable
Reducing, reusing, and recycling will conserve our resources
Solar energy
Population Growth
More people causes more pollution and resources being used up faster
In about 10 years, there will ne more than 8 billion people on Earth
About 200 years ago, there was a great increase in the number of people
Humans need to use more renewable resources
Earth can only hold a certain amount of people
Soil
Erosion moves sediment to different places
Rocks and humus help plants to grow
Weathering breaks rocks into small pieces called sediments
Soil has different layers and the topsoil has the most humus
Soil is a mix of water, rocks, and dead stuff
Plants cannot grow in bedrock, so we must protect the topsoil
Air Pollution
Air pollution can cause cancer and global warming
Air pollution can come from different places, such as cars
Air pollution can mix with clouds to acid rain
Burning fossil fuels releases poisonous gases, such as cars
Conserving our resources will cause less air pollution
Ozone when it's up high protects from the sun, but becomes poisonous when it's near us
Cows produce lots of methane, which is a greenhouse gas
Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse effect is the warming of Earth
Without the greenhouse gasses, Earth would be too cold to live on
Greenhouse gasses, such as CO2, traps heat on the Earth
Global warming causes problems, such as floods, storms, diseases, etc.
Too much greenhouse gasses makes the Earth too hot
( global warming)
Humans are causing global warming by burning fossil fuels and raising lots of cows ( methane )
Humans and their environment
During the Industrial Revolution, human population increased greatly and cause lots of pollution
Using nonrenewable resources, such as plastic, is causing major problems
For the last 200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment
Humans can do things to help the environment, because we need to for our survival
The three ways to help the environment are conserving, chiming in, and cleaning up
