Sustainability of Natural Resources
Fossil Fuels
Natural Resources
Anything in nature that people value
Air, water, fossils, plants, and animals are natural resources
Plastic is not a natural resource
There are 2 types which are renewable and nonrenewable
Reducing, reusing, and recycling will conserve our resources
Climate Change
Global warming is about the temperature of the Earth
The Earth's temperature is increasing faster than normal
Global warming is caused by more greenhouse gases
People using fossil fuels is producing more carbon dioxide
The gases trap the heat on the Earth (greenhouse effect)
Trees remove some of the carbon dioxide
Climate change is causing more bad weather and diseases, but we can fix the problem by conserving our resources.
Solar energy
Recycling
Population Growth
More people causes more pollution and resources being used up faster
In about 10 years, there will be more than 8 billion people on Earth
Earth can only hold a certain amount of people
About 200 years, there was a great increase in the number of people
Humans need to use more renewable resources
Soil
Erosion moves the sediment different places
Rocks and humus help plants to grow
Weathering breaks rocks into small pieces called sediments
Soil has different layers and the topsoil has the most humus
Soil is a mix off water, rocks, and dead stuff
Plants cannot grow in bedrock, so we must protect the topsoil
Air Pollution
Air pollution can result in wildfires, volcanic eruptions, and even cow burps who burp methane
Acid rain is a result of air pollution and so is air quality
Power plants, factories, even the furnaces and stoves all cause air pollution
Greenhouse Effect
Greenhouse effect is the warming of Earth
Greenhouse gases, such as CO2, traps heat on the Earth
Without the greenhouse gases, Earth would be too cold to live on
Too much greenhouse gases makes the Earth too hot (global warming)
Global warming causes problems, such as floods, storms , diseases, etc.
Humans and their enviornment
For the last 200 years, humans have greatly impacted the environment
During the Industrial Revolution, human population increased greatly and caused lots of pollution
The 3 ways to help the environment are conserving, chiming in, and cleaning up
Using non-renewable resources, such as plastic, is causing major problems
