Heat transfer
Radiation
-
Examples:
When you sit next to a campfire or a fireplace and feel all warm and cozy, thank radiation!
-
-
Conduction
Conduction occurs when a temperature difference exists, causing the molecules of an object to transmit energy throughout the object.
-
Convection
Convection occurs when there is a temperature difference in a substance that can flow, such as a liquid or gas.
Examples:
The sun heats the Earth's atmosphere unevenly. This causes warm air to move and rise and cool air to sink.
if water at the bottom of a pot is heated first, leaving the water near the top of the pot cooler. This causes the warmer, less dense water to move to rise and the cooler, denser water to fall.
