- - - - Cortical Gray Matter: Controls voluntary & skilled muscle activity, & functions in intellectual & emotional processing.
      - Basal Nuclei (Ganglia): Subcortical motor centers important in initiation of skeletal muscle movement
    - - Thalamus: Relays sensory impulses to & from the cerebral motor cortex, lower (subcortical) motor center & cerebellum. The Thalamus is involved in in-memory processing.
      - Hypothalamus: Regulation of body temperature, control of food and water intake, & regulation of sleep-wake (carcadian) rhythm.
    - - Midbrain: Controls the movements of the eye, auditory and visual processing.
      - Pons: contains nuclei that relay signals from the forebrain to the cerebellum, nuclei that deal primarily with sleep, respiration, swallowing, bladder control, hearing, equilibrium, taste, eye movement, facial expressions, facial sensation, and posture.
      - Medulla Oblongata: helps regulate breathing, heart, and blood vessel function, digestion, sneezing, and swallowing.

      - Cerebrum:
        
        Frontal Lobe: Voluntary motor functions involved in speech, concentration, verbal communication, decision making, planning, and personality.
        
        Parietal lobe: Involves in general sensory functions, such as evaluating the shape and texture of objects being touched & sensory input regarding body position.
        
        Occipital Lobe: Processes incoming visual information & storing visual memories.
        
        Temporal Lobe: Involves in hearing and smelling.
