A key part of pedagogical principles is to identify the student’s greatest need. Maslow’s hierarchy of need form the foundation of this aspect. For example, during planning I consider the need for rest breaks, room and table layout, making students feel safe and valued, by following the college principles of Ready, Respect and Safe. When students feel safe and secure learning is more likely to occur. Student are offered support through mentoring and pastoral care. Using a variety of communication methods for example SC connect, Moodle and email creates good communication between teacher and student. This will encourage student participation and engagement. Furthermore, building the positive relationships with students helps to make them feel valued and respected, building on a student's self-esteem.
