Jessica is a five-year-old child who lives at home with her Mum and Dad. Due to the recent Austerity measures, Jessica’s Dad has lost his job and is displaying negative emotions, causing friction with his wife. Mum has mild learning difficulties but is able to hold down a part time job, taking on more hours to compensate for the loss of earnings and leaving Dad to parent Jessica. Jessica’s school attendance has been erratic recently and often her homework is not been done. School has noticed Jessica turning up dirty, smelly and she appears to have lost weight. The teacher has tried to arrange a meeting but Mum claims to be too busy and Dad has not replied.
