Grade 6 Term 2: Stories Final Assessment
the 5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly
Students show that they are able to use the computer and find relevant information using google. They are able to insert keywords , use the [ctrl + f] and insert keywords to find whether the information they're looking for is available on the website.
Students try to fix their errors after I have given them feedback.
Students try to organize their sentences to create a logical story.
If time allows, students can add more sentences.
5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic, of which 3 are struggling with language and are at different reading levels and 2 students who have little to no comprehension of the the topic and need to be tested further for special needs
3 Students are struggling with language and are at different reading levels - provide students with a guide of each sentence. For example: Sentence 1, when and where he was born? Sentence 2, his father/mother, (name) and his/her occupation. Sentence 3, school. Sentence 4, hobbies and etc.
Check their sentences and re-write them in simple sentences. Unscramble the order and get the students to try and unscramble them into the right order. For example: Born 1940 in he Liverpool in was. He was born in 1940 in Liverpool.
From students' work, identify an example of a complex piece of information and show them to simplified their research so that students can try to organize their sentences to create a logical story.
2 students have little to no comprehension of the topic - provide students with a guide of each sentence. For example: Sentence 1, when and where he was born? Sentence 2, his father/mother, (name) and his/her occupation. Sentence 3, school. Sentence 4, hobbies and etc.
Provide the students with the link of the website so that they can find the specific information.
Get the students to write the translation (L1, Japanese) of the sentence so they understand the meaning of the sentence.

Grade 6 students have been learning about stories (Florence Nightingale, John Lennon and Ichizaemon Morimura) and their final project will be to research their chosen famous dead person and produce 10 simple sentences in English.
Pre-Assessment
Research, i.e. Using Wikipedia. For example: Steve Jobs Wikipedia page. Provide students with 3 questions: when and where he was born, when was the first iPhone released and what happened in 2017. Students try to find the information using [ctrl + f] and inserting the key words from the question.
ELL and Learning Disabilities. Provide students with the keywords.
Intermediate students. Students try to find the information in other web pages, not Wikipedia. If they have given up, they can access the Wikipedia page.
In addition to the task of Intermediate students, students write down three extra sentences about Steve Jobs.
Re-ordering sentences. Students are given cut-up of sentences and they try to re-order them to make a logical story.
ELL and Learning Disabilities. Highlight the keywords such as born, died and etc. Students can use their dictionary or look up difficult words on the internet.
Intermediate students. Students can use their dictionary or look up difficult words on the internet.
Let students do it by themselves. Get students to check the answers on the internet. Provide students the answer when class time is almost done.
