Therapist's Function and Role
1) Help client to be aware of how they have incorporated irrational thoughts into their belief system
2) Help clients to be aware of how preserving the psychological problems by repeatedly thinking illogically and unrealistically
3) Help them modify irrational beliefs to become rational ones
4) Help clients adopt a rational philosophy of life to live lives in a healthier manner
Relationship between
Therapist and Client
Advocates a respectful relationship but not necessitate a warm relationship to be effective.
Therapist don't only show unconditional acceptance but also help them to accept self and others.
Takes a considerable amount of time teaching client how their cognition contribute to emotional disturbance and ways to change
Therapist focus more on the here and now experience
Therapist encourage client to challenge beliefs outside of sessions to increase competency through homework and will be reviewed regularly for progress monitoring

Use various educational materials like DVD and articles

Change unhealthy emotional patterns to healthier ones by chnaging thinking patterns
Humor
Sometimes clients take themselves too seriously. Help client develop a sense of humour so that they can laugh at some of their self-defeating and absurd ways of thinking and cause them to make constructive changes
Role-Playing
Help clients in role play to see how their irrational beliefs are contributing to their emotional disturbances
Help them to dispute these beliefs and replace with rational ones
Shame-Attacking Exercise
Used to reduce levels of shame and anxiety and carry out behaviors that they are scared to do for fear of how others will react.
Purpose is to increase client's self acceptance and not let other's reaction hinder them from doing what they want
