Betina Mello - referral process
First 6 weeks of school: teachers get to know students, analyze data from previous grades, record first assessments.
Student Review: meetings at grade levels (teachers + teaching assistants) + Head of Primary + assistant Head + LS teachers + counselor. Check in on all students and listing the ones with red flags.
Meeting with parents (parent/teacher conference) and raise concerns (ask questions about development and previous report cards).
Check in after 4 weeks with teachers (School Week 11) to see if there are still red flags. If yes, teachers fill up a SOC form and:
Student of Concern Meeting: teacher + teaching assistant + Head of Primary + assistant Head + LS teachers + counselor + Math and Literacy Coaches + ELL teacher, to talk more specifics about a student.
E-mail or meet parents about booster groups / strategy groups / interventions in place.
Strategies and Interventions in place for 6 weeks and data collection.
Booster Groups (LLI)
Orton-Gillingham intervention (multi sensory)
small groups by levels
math groups by skills
Second SOC meeting to analyze data. Decisions on:
Learning Support: parent meeting, strategies and results explained, IEP/AEP goals and tier explained, parents sign an assessment form (internal assessments), and sign IEP/AEP, if agree with services.
IEP/AEP updated every 6 months with parents (goals are revised, added and changed).
Counseling: counselor organizes meetings and activities.
Descontinue services (all interventions documented for future reference).
LS + Counseling: LS teacher is the case manager. Same procedure for both (meetings and services).
Student not making academic progress or presenting behavior challenges

Student comes with an IEP/AEP or a formal assessment from a Psich. Ed. with a diagnosis. Admissions team contact LS teacher.
LS teacher analyzes documents and drafts a plan, based on services to be provided. A plan is presented at the Student Services Team meeting (Head of Primary + assistant Head + LS teachers + counselor.
The plan is adjusted and forwarded to Deputy of Learning, who will present to parents, prior enrollment.
If the parents agree with the plan, services are provided as soon as the student starts school.

LS + Counseling: LS teacher is the case manager. Same procedure for both (meetings and services).
