        After looking at the data of my school in particular, we have 16% ELL students. Also in our school improvement plan (SIP), one of our goals is to increase the % of students who feel like they belong at Bates. With the use of multicultural art in the classroom, whether it's dance, music, drama, or visual art, we can hopefully support students feeling like they can make connections.

      - WHY:
        At my school, students participate in an Advisory class where they are able to explore topics such as empathy, social awareness, self awareness, etc. We also have a Social Worker who wants to further explore arts activities that support her small student groups (anger, suicide, etc.) I would love to work more with using the arts to support these topics in many aspects in the building.

      - WHY:
        I wanted to integrate Growth Mindset into my map because not only do we want our students to feel like they can grow from mistakes, but I want the teachers I work with to feel the same way! I know from experience that it can be difficult to try something new in the classroom that you are personally an expert in (dancing or creating music). My goal for this year is to schedule workshops for our teachers at Maryland Hall to try something new, go out of their comfort zones with a new art form. If our teachers become comfortable in trying something new.. then that mindset will become apart of the classroom atmosphere as well.

    - - While I support our teachers in creating assessments that incorporate the content AND the arts standards, I want our teachers to see the value in assessing both.
  - - - This pairing is a bit more broad but I would love to look more into science with visual art careers. Often, students may state they aren't interested in becoming a scientist in a lab but as educators, we need to show them to variety of connections between the science and art worlds. That you can use your visual art skills in a science setting (drawing scientific illustrations for a museum, etc.) So I would love to provide ways for our science teachers to share these types of opportunities with our students.

    - - Drama allows for students to jump out of their comfort zones. Math consistently comes up as a subject that students struggle with. They lack confidence and perseverance in solving problems. I think utilizing drama along side of math can support the confidence issue. I've been working with a math team to use improv during lessons and I look forward to seeing where it takes us.

      - WHY:
        I would really like to support our new Dance teachers with AI Strategies. By providing them with a chart of grade levels, content areas, and general topics they teach, I hope this drives AI in their studios. I've also been exploring some lessons to help them get started!
        Dance is also an art form that a lot of our content teachers struggle with. If they aren't comfortable themselves, they are less likely to integrate dance into their content.
