Differentiated Learning In My Classroom
Signs of a struggling student
Lack of awareness and comprehension of the teachers' expectations
.
Assessment to check comparative level
. Teachers could use this strategy to see whether the student is performing at an average scale.
Monitoring and observation.
Through informal assessment, teachers could note the students' behavior as well as performance in the classroom.
Lack of understanding of classroom instructions.
Intervention
Take time to
observe and monitor students
. a fantastic way for me to assess them informally. Place students who are thriving in the classroom with students who may be struggling in one table.
Classroom seating plans
. “It's a good idea to create several "partners" for every child in the class” (Webstar, 2018)
Peer coaching and collaborative tasks
. By encouraging more collaborative tasks, students are able to help and support one another. This helps students build social, teamwork, as well as communication skills.
Communication with parents
. Set up an appointment with parents. Teachers need to communicate with parents by sharing documented behavior. This helps parents understand the situation as well as further discuss the approaches in helping the child.
Special Education Program
. According to the Special Education Law (IDEA), the child must go through various assessments in order to test whether he/she has disability. Evaluation is very important during this process.
General Differentiated Instructions
Group students by shared interests.
This could allow students to be more engaged in the classroom.
Flipped classroom.
Students view the content at home before coming to class. During class time, they are ready to be engaged in the new material.
Think-pair-share
Use of technology.
Teachers could incorporate technology by utilizing both auditory and visual means in the classroom. This could be beneficial to students who learn aurally and visually.
Hands-on activities
. This could be helpful to students who learn physically.
Importance of school administration
Directive should be clear and direct
. The school should keep the parents informed regarding the support the students with disabilities will be receiving.
Goals should be established
. Goals such as specialized instructions designed to meet each individual's unique learning needs should be communicated.
Communication
. Communication plays a major role between the parents and the school administration. Both parties need to understand the support each individual child needs and the approaches that the school will take in order to maximize the child's potential.
