Client Server & Peer to Peer 1.4c
Client server
Switch
A switch has multiple nodes connected to it and then the switch can connect to the server.
Advantages
File servers can allow users to access their files from any workstation.
If all the data is lost on the file server then you can have a backup of the resources. (Backups are easier on client servers that on any other servers)
Disadvantages
Costs a lot
Cabling
Wireless would need to have maintenance (staff aren’t cheap)
If there is a Central Failure (switch stops working or a cable fails) means no one can access their files or anything from the server that they are connected from.
We can have a client server network when it is connected to one or more servers.
Peer to Peer
NO SERVER
Normally a switch or a hub to let workstations connect together
People can share things that other people can access but if the workstation brakes down then so does the share.
Security is very weak on a peep to peer and yo may not need to authenticate.
You have to install and update software individually and cant do it all in one go.
If a peripheral is connected to a workstation, and the workstation is off, then no one will be able to access it. (printer or scanners)
