Client server
Server- a powerful computer system that typically provides one or more of the following-
Files
peer to peer
there is no central point.
There may be a switch or a hub to connect the workstations but there is no server.
people can share things if they want to.
other nodes can access the files but if the node is down then no other node can access the files on that node.
you cant use site licence on peer to peer network so you have to install software separately- go to all nodes and install software.
its still possible to get a site licence, you just cant use it.
authentication
Network users name to type in the username and password to access it
Disadvantage
Disadvantages- high cost to set up and maintain it. Needs qualified staff to maintain it. A central failure can mean no-one can access their files.
Back-ups
because user files are all on the file server, backups are defiantly needed

File server- allow users to access their files from any workstation.
