A 52 year old female goes to the doctors office complaining of recent challenges completeing normal tasks. When asked about her family history she states that her brother died from ALS at age 31, and that she isnt sure but thinks her dad also died from the same thing. After getting tested for the disease it comes back that infact she also has developed the same diesease.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord.The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost.

Age. ALS risk increases with age, and is most common between the ages of 40 and the mid-60s
Sex. Before the age of 65, slightly more men than women develop ALS
