Plants & Soil (Parts of a Plant (Flower, Stem, Leaf, Roots, Fruit),…
-
Activity where children paste the photos corresponding to each stage of a plant’s life cycle can be carried out to help children better understand the life cycle of a plant (this is valid but need to think of how to strengthen it by extending it make it longer, cause now a bit short)
Do storytelling using books related to plants. For example Jack and the beanstalk. Then after that, get the children to write their own storybook variation of jack and the beanstalk and change the ending
- Children learn about the different parts of plant as part of their Discovery of the World
- Art activity of making a plant using different coloured construction paper and labelling parts of a plant
- Science activity of growing their own plants (e.g using green beans) to have a real life experience and example
- Children can have a show and tell session, where each child has to bring something they already have at home that is a product of a plant. Some examples would be dried tea leaves, sunflower oil, aloe vera gel etc
Simple matching activities which shows photos and/or names of organisms that can be found in soil can help children identify what lives in soil (Valid but not very strong)
An excursion to Botanic Gardens can give children a chance to learn more about the different plants in person instead of through books and pictures. (can be counted as one activity)
Activity where the children can learn and observe the soil layers through a small experiement with the guidance of the teacher. Then they can draw it out and label in their journal. Can link it to one category inside and do this before one category. Maybe before teach organismS?
-
Activity where children can go outdoors to collect different types of plants and flowers to compare the differences with one another. This way they can learn about diversity and comparing.
Activity where children use different laminated pictures of flowers to teach patterning. Different flower will have different colour we teach Lor.
Activity where the child will play hopscotch with one another. Here instead of numbers, there will be flowers with varying amount of petals.
