LEVELS OF BRONFENBRENNER'S BIO-ECOLOGICAL MODEL
Microsystem
the immediate environment where proximal processes are played out
constitutes a pattern of activities, roles and interpersonal relations experienced between individual and system in which they actively participate in
e.g. family; school; peers
Mesosystem
relationships that develop and exist between 2 or more of these microsystems at given moment in individual's life
system of microsystems
e.g. relations between the family and child's teacher/ peers
Exosystem
one or more environments in which the developing learner is not involved directly as an active participant
but influence or may be influenced by what happens in settings and relationships that directly influence the learner
e.g. health system; parents place of work; divorce between parents
Macrosystem
dominant social and economic structures
& the attitudes, beliefs, values & ideolgies inherent in the system of a particular society & culture
e.g. democracy, equality, social justice
Chronosystem
encapsulates the dimension of time & how it relates specifcally to interactions between these systems and their influences on individual development
e.g. poverty, homelessness, violence
