genetics
Chromosome-Humans have 23 pairs, a total of 46 chromosomes- they are made of nucleic acid and proteins found in the nucleus cell. They carry genetic info in the form of genes.
-
Genome- The complete set of genes. Genes are made of the chemical DNA each cell has the same set of instructions.
-
-
Genotypes vs. phenotypes
-
-
examples- eye color, hair color, height, and shoe size
examples- nutrition, temperature, humidity, stress and skin color
Alleles- Different forms of the same gene ex. (eyes) are the trait and Alleles is the color of the eyes or hair alleles is it curly or straight
-
Heterozygous dominant-the genes are different but they get the same cominaation from both parents they could have Hh and Hh from both parents.
-
-
Mutations- A sudden permanent change in the DNA, can be caused by the environment or a gene. :
Beneficial mutations- A mutation that might make life a little easier for some animals or people
- Being able to see color
2.Having the ability to hear
Harmful mutations- A mutation that makes life harder and may affect the way you live
- Blind/color blind
- deaf/hearing loss
Sexual reproduction- (male and female) when a new organism is created from 2 parents, sperm from the male and an egg from the female. Sex cell combine to form a new organism.
Asexual reproduction- (one parent)- the offspring will have identical DNA to the parent it is cloned. Offspring looks the same as parent.
