The definition of a legend is a story handed down through generations which is believed to be historical.
Similarities
legends usually involve heroic characters or fantasctic places, while in fairy tales there are talking animals that can have human characteristics. but they both are passed down from generation to generation or from person to person.

Legends are usually based on some sort of historical fact and have had their characters or events embellished over the tellings and retellings. Fairy tales generally have some sort of fantastic element, and might feature magic, imaginary creatures, and often a conflict between sides that are clearly good and evil.
Supernatural

Differences
The main difference between fable and fairy tale is that the fable usually has a moral lesson at the end whereas the fairy tale is essentially for entertainment.
