Second Great Awakening: Another emergence of religion within American society focused around salvation through good deeds.
Through its focus on moral deeds and thinking, the Second Great Awakening lead to abolitionist movements in the North, prison reforms and temperance leagues. Therefore, I believe the Second Great Awakening had a positive effect on America's society
Social Movements
William Lloyd Garrison's Liberator: An newspaper run by William Lloyd Garrison advocating the abolition of slavery.
The advent of the newspaper and society's shift towards abolitionism helped shape American society for the better by advocating against slavery. However in the short-term, the abolitionist movement and the resulting Civil War brought division to American society and antagonized the North and South.
Declaration of Sentiments: A document drafted by the attendees of the first women's rights convention.
The declaration and the subsequent suffragette movement changed American society by bringing the lack of women's rights to the forefront. However, the radicalism of the declaration isolated those in American society with traditional values. Despite this, the Declaration of Sentiments had a positive impact on American society due to these helping these issues coming to life
Know Nothing Party: An anti-Catholic, xenophobic political party formed in 1844.
The Know Nothing Party brought nothing to American society but its introduction of anti-Catholic sentiment within American society. Furthermore, the anti-immigration platform also brought hatred and dissent to American society. Therefore, the Know Nothing Party changed American society for bad.

Market Changes
Lowell Mills: Began hiring employees who would live on site and be paid hourly instead of the price of the products they made.
The introduction of wage labour significantly decreased the standard of living for working Americans and the conditions were much worse than Americans' previous lives as agricultural farmers.
Samuel Slater's Factory Model: Stolen from the English, Slater brought manufactories and textile machinery to the United States.
While the industrialization of American society has benefitted it greatly, the import of textile machinery increased the demand for Southern cotton. This in turn, further encouraged slavery in the South and led to the American Civil War.
