Morfologia da Língua Inglesa: Nouns
proper:is a name give to a specific individual- are always written with capital letter
concrete: have a real phisical existence, they can be touch
common: general noun
animate: Refers to people, animals and living beings. EX: Boy, sheep, worm
noun is the name of a person, place, thing or "ideal".
May be modified by adjectives
Syntactically
● May be preceded by determiners (articles, demonstratives, quantifier)
Can be the head of subject noun phrase (NP) and object NP in a sentence
abstrac: Is a noun or a noun phrase that names an Idea, event, quality or concept.
Countable Nouns: são substantivos que podem ser contados e enumerados
Inanimate: Refer to a thing or concept. EX: Corn, Boyhood, sleep...
uncountable: can't be countable
prefixes: A prefix comes at the beginning of a word.
A suffix comes at the end of a word.
The words have to be learnt as vocabulary items.
We do not use in before l, m, p or r. We use il, im and ir instead.
There are some negative prefixes used to express an opposite.
"un", "in"
Content words are: nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.
The function words are: articles, determiners, prepositions, conjunctions and pronouns
