Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS)
Case study 1 - Student A
He is a disruptive student. He often claims that he doesn’t want to do activities. He bothers, laugh at other students and makes noises on purpose.
Tier 1 – Start commands
Start commands serves as a verbal cue to transition, follow through, follow directives, comply with rules and expectations. (e.g. I’ll begin as soon as you are seated.)
Start commands would help direct students to start and stop activities
Data Tracking - Tier 1 Intervention General Tracking will help keep tracking student’s behavior. Also, it will be widely used to take a note for interventions’ outcome.
Tier 2 – Reward system
Reward system would provide a visual concrete reason for students to work toward behavioral and academic goals.
Data Tracking - Token economy where students earn a token for meeting predetermined goals, which they can use to buy or earn a reward after a certain number
Tier 3 - Behavior Meetings
In the behavior meetings, everyone involved tends to feel more responsible for implementing interventions when it is discussed in person with school and home parties at the table
Data Tracking - Tier 1 intervention general tracking documents and behavior & intervention tracking form would be valuable data for the meeting.
Case study 2 - Student B
She is a lack of participation student. She often says “why I have to do this?”. Moreover, she has avoidance behaviors such as excuses for not doing work or meeting expectations.
Tier 1 – Assign a buddy or partner
Assigning a buddy or partner would increase student responsibility and accountability. Moreover, it would decrease challenges to authority and Lowers stress, intimidation, and anxiety levels for students.
Data Tracking - Let a buddy or partner check student B’s participation in the class with a hand raising tracking form. It would show clearly how many times student B participated in the class.
Tier 2 – Reward system
Reward system would provide a visual concrete reason for students to work toward behavioral and academic goals.

Tier 3 - Individual & Visual Schedules
Individual & Visual Schedules would provide more specific routine, agenda, and instructions for a student’s daily procedures in class, between classes, and during unstructured times
Data Tracking - Weekly scatter plot would be not only giving individual & visual schedules for the student but also helping record the student’s behaviors for the teacher
