Impacts of dumb bass technology
E-waste
When technology is replaced, either because it stops working or being replaced by a newer version it tends to end up in landfill
The problem with this is that e-waste can cause toxic chemicals such as lead, arsenic and and cadmium to leach into the soil over time. Rain can wash these contaminants away into nearby rivers or other bodies of water, polluting water supplies
However, to get around this, some places send e-waste to other places with less strict regulations
e-waste mountains are a consequence of this. People, even children, dangerously traverse these for valuable metals to sell
To battle the problem of e-waste in landfill, some countries have strict regulations on recycling electronic components
Sustainability
Most phones aren't recyclable and are sent to landfill
Sustainability can be represented with the 3 R's:
Recycle
Salvaging as many components as possible
Reuse
Selling/Giving away unwanted devices for people to use
Reduce
Not always getting new devices just because they turn off.
Energy
The increase in use of devices has lead to a significant increase in electricity consumption, which leads to more fossil fuels being burnt
Technology can be used to create sustainable energy.
Water Conservation systems
Solar Panels
Smart Meters
Energy saving LED
Data centers
Data centers are used to house an organisation's IT operations and equipment. They use vast amounts of energy, 3% of the global energy supply (which may treble in the next decade) because they contain upwards of hundreds of networked computers to distribute and process data.
Monitoring
We can use technology to monitor the Earths environments
Such as:
Weather Satelites
Burning of jungles
Ocean Currents
Growth of deserts
I hate Obama so much
Yeah me too
State of crops
Tracking stupid species
