Severe face and arm muscle spasms

Muscular system
Nervous system
Integumentary system
Movement of body
Maintains posture
Circulation of blood
Transmits signals between different parts of the body
Protection of the body from the outside world
Respiratory system
Allows us to breathe
Chain of events
Neurotransmitters:
Exocytosis
Clostridium tetani
Muscle is stimulated by somatic motor neurons
Axon travels from nervous system to skeletal muscle
Axon divides into branches
Axon branches end on muscle fiber- forms neuromuscular junction
Synaptic bulb (house synaptic vesicles)
Synaptic vesicles are filled with acetylcholine(ACh)
Voltage gated Calcium channels are embedded in the plasma membrane of synaptic bulb
Calcium comes into the s. bulb- flows down the concentration gradient
If the channel is opened, it signals a neuron action potential
Sodium enters into muscle cell and potassium leaves.
This causes depolarization- "Zap"
Outflux of potassium
Inside of sarcolemma returns to resting potential of -70mV "repolarization"
Acetylcholine
Twitch, summation, and tetany
Twitch:
Isolated muscle contraction
Summation:
Increase contractile strength; no relaxation
Tetany:
Stays contracted: no relaxation
Vesicles transported to cell membrane
Vesicle membrane attaches to cell membrane
Fusion of membrane to membrane release the contents outside the cell
Anaerobic bacteria
Produces tetanolysin- local tissue destruction
Produces tetanospasmin- causes clinical tetanus
Cause servere muscular spams
tetanus toxin blocks the release of neurotransmitters
Can cause death by respiratory muscle failure
Muscular:
Muscle spasms
Stiff muscles
Respiratory:
Lack of breathing
Shortness of breath
Whole body:
Fever
HTN
Nervous sys dysfunction
sweating
Rapid heart rate
