Malala Yousafzia
Malala is a Pakistani student and is 15 years old. She was shot in the head in October 2012 on her way home from school. She believed that girls had the right to be educated and spoke out about it. At times, Taliban had banned school and she thought this was wrong. She survived the incident and remains a political activist today.

Pussy riot
These girls are a feminist punk rock group. in 2012 they did a performance in Moscow as a political protest against the Russian president Vladimir Putin's politics. They believed he was a dictator. They were charged and sent to jail.

Aung San Suu Kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese human rights activist/politician. In 1988 she protested against the military and in 1989 was placed under house arrest. She spent 15 of the next 21 years in jail.

Courts in each Australian state and territory are arranged in a hierarchy meaning they are ranked from lowest to highest according to the seriousness of cases they hear

Intermediate court: district court takes serious civil cases of over $100,000.
Magistrates court takes civil cases under $75,000
High court first sat in 1903. Also hears cases involving disputes over interpretations of the Australian constitution.

A precedent is a decision or legal principle made by the judge. It must be followed by all lower courts.
Judges and magistrates in the lower courts in each state and territory must follow the legal principles made by judges in the higher courts.
